Celebrate VE day with the help of our Detailed Access Guides

Thursday 8th May 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, a momentous milestone in the UK's history. As we honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served in the Second World War, there are countless meaningful ways to commemorate this occasion, whether through reflection, education, or community celebration.

We’ve pulled together the best places to visit and events to attend, all supported by our Detailed Access Guides.

Travel Back in Time at the Iconic Military Museums

Revisit pivotal moments in our history at some of the nation’s most important military museums. From aircraft to artefacts, these institutions bring the stories of WW2 to life. Our Detailed Access Guides for these venues cover facilities including parking, entrances, inside access, accessible toilets, and resources to help you plan ahead.

Celebrate in the Great Outdoors

Why not mark the day with a picnic in your local park? This weekend, parks across the UK are hosting community events, from performances to remembrance services. We’ve partnered with local authorities across the UK to create Detailed Access Guides for public outdoor spaces, including parks and gardens, so you can find the best spots for your celebration with family and friends.

Raise a Glass at Your Local

On 8th May, many pubs and bars are extending their opening hours. It’s the perfect time to gather with loved ones to toast the WW2 generation. Whether you're looking for a stunning beer garden or a lively sing-along, our website has 1000s of Detailed Access Guides to pubs and bars around the UK.

Visit Westminster Abbey’s “Beyond Victory” Season

On VE Day in May 1945, services of thanksgiving were held every hour at Westminster Abbey, drawing around 25,000 people in a powerful display of national gratitude. Since then, the anniversary has been regularly commemorated, and this year, a special service at Westminster Abbey on 8th May will once again unite the nation in remembering and honouring the generation who lived through the Second World War.

Westminster Abbey is also commemorating VE Day with its Beyond Victory programme, which is running throughout May and June. The season includes guided tours, Insightful talks and a creative drawing workshop.

Attend Services at UK Cathedrals

Across the country, cathedrals and churches will host special VE Day services and commemorative events. We have produced Detailed Access Guides for cathedrals in cities including Bradford, Bristol, Glasgow and Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire. These stunning places of worship offer a beautiful space for remembrance and reflection.

No matter how you choose to mark VE Day, our Detailed Access Guides are here to ensure you can celebrate in a place that’s accessible and welcoming to you. We hope you have a wonderful time!
