Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from Malham Tarn estates office. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Please note that the boardwalk around the reserve and the bird hide are not suitable for trampers or other mobility scooters.
Public Transport
- There is not a bus stop within approximately 150m of the site.
- The nearest bus stop is approximately 4 miles away in Malham Village.
- The nearest train station is Settle.
- The station is approximately 6 miles away.

Parking (Quarry Car Park)
- This site has a car park.
- This is an open air car park with a loose chippings and gravel surface.
- Parking is free for all users.
- Maps and information boards are available.
- There are no Blue Badge parking bays available.
- Obstacles from the car park include: slopes/ramps.
- There are not parent and child parking bays available.
- There is not a designated drop-off point.
Route to (the Bird Hide)
- Exit the Quarry car park and turn right down the lane.
Continue along the lane to the gate for Malham Estate on the left.
Go through the gate and continue along Pothole Lane to the end and then turn right onto the estate road.
Follow the road past the exit of the boardwalk and towards Malham Estate.
The access point to the area the bird hide is in, is on the right.
Follow the path down to the bird hide.
The path is steep in places and is 120cm wide narrowing to 75cm in some areas. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
- The estate road has speed bumps.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front left of the bird hide.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 80cm.
Attraction / Exhibit
- The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- Exhibit information includes the following formats: information board.
- The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- There are bench seats available in the area.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs.
- All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
