Visitor Centre

  • Access into the area is via steps.
  • There are 6 steps, which are clearly marked, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 78cm.
  • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the visitor centre.
  • There is room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) throughout the visitor centre.
  • All flooring is smooth and even.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 90cm.
  • There is not a low level section at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The counter has a hearing assistance system which is not signed.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There are tables and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests available in the visitor centre.

Picnic Area

  • The following information describes the picnic area located opposite the visitor centre.

  • There are picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are available.
  • The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 70cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass and gravel.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located to the right of the visitor centre.
  • Access into the area is via slight ramps/slopes and steep ramps/slopes.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • This access point leads to the open countryside surrounding Ravenscar.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: open countryside.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: gravel, compact earth and loose stones.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • The slopes run along the main paths throughout the countryside area.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have gates which may create obstacles for some users.
  • There is a cattlegrid along the main path that can be bypassed by using the adjoining gate to the right.
