Access Guide
Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Visitors must be a member of the Outdoor Mobility charity to have use of the tramper.
Summary

Route to (Grounds)
- From the car park, carry on straight past the house and that is the beginning of the outdoor space.
- The route to the area is step-free level.
- Path surfaces along the route are gravel and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located to the right of the castle.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland and gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: gravel, bonded gravel and compact earth.
- Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
- There are slight slopes throughout the whole of the outdoor space.
- There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
Hikes and Trails (Arboretum Walk)
- The trail is approximately 800 metres.
- The Arboretum trail is a short circular route that goes around some of the outdoor space at Wray Castle.
- The walk is not open 24 hours.
- None of the paths are lit at night.
- The route includes the following surfaces: gravel.
- Some of the route contains steps and very uneven surfaces.
- There are alternative routes to avoid these areas.
- The route is clearly signposted.
- Seating is available on the route.
- There are no toilet facilities along the route.
- There is a tramper suitable trail available.
