Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
- There are two wheelchairs available to borrow with no charge.

Route to (the Formal Garden Rooms)
- Exit the visitor centre via the café and follow the signs to the right.
Go through the gate directly ahead and the formal garden rooms are on the right. - The route to the area is step-free level.
- Path surfaces along the route are gravel, cobbles and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located at the front of the Formal Garden Rooms.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
- The gate is not self-closing.
- The width of the gap is 137cm.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, block paving and gravel.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
- There is a slight slope with no handrails and 4 unmarked steps with no handrails as you enter the formal garden rooms on the right.
There are 3 unmarked steps with no handrails down into the fountain garden.
From the fountain garden, there are two unmarked steps with no handrails up into the vegetable garden.
There are 3 unmarked steps with no handrails leading to the well garden.
There is one unmarked step with no handrails to access the orangery from the vegetable garden. - There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
Entrance (Orangery)
- The entrance surveyed is located to either side of the Orangery.
- There is stepped access at the entrance.

- The step is not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 83cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.
