Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (the Shop)
- Cross the road ahead from visitor reception and follow the path uphill.
Follow the path until you reach two archways in the hedge.
Turn right after going through the first archway.
Keep to the left until you see the entrance on the right for the second-hand bookshop and gallery. Bear right here, then turn left at the corner of the building.
Pass the stepped entrance to the gallery and the shop entrance will be on the left. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope and is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel, paving stones and wood.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located to the left after passing the stepped entrance to the Malthouse Gallery.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 96cm.
- There is a second manual door which opens towards you.
- The width of the opening is 89cm.
- The second door is sometimes left open.
Shop
- The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
- Flooring in the shop is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
- There is step-free level access around some of the shop.
- Access around the shop is via a step.
- There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
- Lighting levels are varied.
- There is step-free level access to the counter.
- The height of the counter is 76cm.
- The counter has windows, TVs, glazed screens or mirrors which could adversely affect the ability of someone to lip read.
- The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- Services/facilities available in the shop include: a portable card machine for payment and a member of staff to provide assistance.
- The counter surveyed is in the rear room of the shop.
There is another counter 92cm high in the first room of the shop.
