Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (Malthouse Gallery)

  • Cross the road ahead from visitor reception and follow the path uphill.
    Follow the path until you reach two archways in the hedge.
    Turn right after going through the first archway.
    Keep to the left until you see the entrance on the right for the second-hand bookshop and gallery.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope and is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel, paving stones and wood.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance (Accessible)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the entrance to the second-hand bookshop.
  • There is step-free access via lift at the entrance.
  • The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 90cm.
  • There is a second manual door which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 74cm.
  • There is a lift which bypasses the steps.
  • The second door is after you have ascended in the lift.

Lift (Accessible Entrance)

  • This lift is a platform lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are G, 1.
  • Externally the lift has: a door with a low colour contrast to the surroundings, buttons with a high colour contrast to the surroundings and controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift does not have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
  • The lift door opening width is 90cm.
  • The dimensions of the lift are 110cm x 151cm.
  • Internally the lift has: a separate door to exit, controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user, Braille markings, tactile markings and buttons with a high colour contrast to the surroundings.

  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with a handrail on the right going up.
  • Steps are split with a resting area.
  • The handrails cover all steps.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 77cm.
  • There is a second manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 76cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.

Attraction / Exhibit

  • The majority of walkway widths are over 180cm.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Exhibit information includes the following formats: information board.
  • The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are bench seats and chairs without armrests available in the area.
  • All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
