Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and communication cards.
- You can borrow these from house. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: mobility scooters and trampers. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Parking (Walled Garden - Accessible Parking)
- This site has a car park.
- The vehicle route from the main road to the car park includes: uneven surfaces.
- This is an open air car park with a compacted gravel and compacted earth surface.
- Parking is free for all users.
- Maps and information boards are not available.
- There are 3 Blue Badge parking bays.
- The nearest Blue Badge bay is 35m from the garden entrance.
- Obstacles from the car park include: uneven surfaces, loose chippings, slopes/ramps and a lack of pedestrian walkways to cross the car park.
- There is not a designated drop-off point.
- As parking is limited, please speak to staff at Visitor Welcome before you attempt to park here to ensure there is space available.
Visitors do not need a Blue Badge to use the accessible parking bays.
They are available for anyone that may need them.
Route to (the Walled Garden via East Wood)
- From Visitor Welcome, walk along the pathway to the clocktower courtyard area.
Walk along the tarmac pathway to the east of the main house.
Follow the signpost to the East Wood entrance gates.
Pass through the gates and follow the signposted route to the Walled Garden area. Visitors who require accessible parking can use the car park in the Walled Garden area. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
- Path surfaces are tar and chip.
Outdoor Spaces (Walled Garden)
- This information is for the access point located at the Walled Garden.
- Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
- The ramp is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which opens towards you (pull).
- The gate is not self-closing.
- The gate has a latch lock.
- The width of the gap is 104cm.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, cobbled, loose chippings, grass, block paving and gravel.
- Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes with handrails, more than 3 steps without handrails, slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
- Beyond the entrance there is ramped or stepped access down to the garden area.
Wheelchair users need to use the ramp and then the sloped pathway to access the garden area.
There are steps to a raised area of the garden. - There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
