Route to (East Wood)

  • From the visitor reception walk along the pathway to the clocktower courtyard area.
    Walk along the tarmac pathway to the east of the main house.
    Follow the signpost to the East Wood entrance gates.
    Cross the public highway taking care there are no vehicles.
    Pass through the gates and follow the signposted route to the East Wood and Walled Garden area.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
  • Path surfaces around the East Wood are tar and chip, with some short sections of boardwalk.
    Trampers are available to borrow from Visitor Welcome.
    There are gates that open towards you which have an opening of 110cm.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located off a pathway leading from the house.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is an easy open gate at the surveyed access point which opens towards you (pull).
  • The gate is not self-closing.
  • The gate has a sliding bolt lock.
  • The width of the gap is 110cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland and gardens.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails, less than 3 steps without handrails, slight ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas .
  • The slopes and steps are located throughout the area.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails (East Wood - Accessible Route)

  • The route takes you past the China and Garden Ponds.
    The gradients on the pathways vary on the route.
    The route takes you to the Walled Garden area.
  • The hike is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • Some of the route contains very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: throughout the area.
  • There are alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards without maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are accessible toilet facilities along the route.
  • There is a gate that opens towards you to a width of 110cm to access the East Wood Trails.
    Path surfaces are tar and chip.

Hikes and Trails (Portico Walk - Stepped Route)

  • The route has various gradients.
    There are steps along the route.
    The route takes you to the walled garden area.
  • The hike is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients, steps and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: throughout the area.
  • There are alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards without maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are accessible toilet facilities along the route.
  • There is a gate that opens toward you to a width of 110cm to access the East Wood Trails. Path surfaces are tar and chip.

Toilet with Adaptations (East Wood - Not Accessible / Ambulant - Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located to the rear of the conservatory building in the walled garden.
  • Access into the toilet is via a step and a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 90cm.
  • The door has a sliding bolt lock.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 264cm x 244cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 170cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the non transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
