Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from the Welcome Pavilion, North Fountain Shuttlebus drop-off and the Manor House. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the Parterre)

  • The fastest and most accessible route to the Parterre is via the estate's shuttlebus.
    The pick up point is next to the visitor car park at the Welcome Pavilion.
    Board the bus for the short journey to The North Fountain drop off point.
    Head down the gravel drive until you reach the house.
    Turn left and follow the path around the side of the house, past The Coffee Bar to a fork in the path.
    Take the left route and then turn right up the steep slope to the Parterre.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Parterre)

  • This information is for the access point located at the rear of the Manor.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: gravel and bonded gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Route to (Rose Garden and Elephant Family)

  • The fastest and most accessible route to the Rose Garden and Elephant Family is via the estate's shuttlebus.
    The pick up point is next to the visitor car park at the Welcome Pavilion.
    Board the bus for the short journey to The North Fountain drop off point.
    Head toward the house and take the first right.
    Follow the path up a slight slope through the trees with the Aviary on the left.
    Continue a short distance along this path to see the Rose Garden on the right or continue for the Elephant Family in the trees ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Rose Garden and Elephant Family)

  • This information is for the access point located along the path to the right of the Aviary.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is an easy open gate at the surveyed access point which opens both ways.
  • The gate is not self-closing.
  • The gate has a latch lock.
  • The width of the gap is 158cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: bonded gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
