  • The standard toilets can be found on the lower ground level referred to as the cellar.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from the Welcome Pavilion, North Fountain Shuttlebus drop-off and the Manor House. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the House)

  • The fastest and most accessible route to the House is via the estate's shuttlebus.
    The pick up point is next to the visitor car park at the Welcome Pavilion.
    Board the bus for the short journey to The North Fountain drop off point.
    Head down the gravel drive until you reach the House.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of Waddesdon - House.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The ramp overcomes the steps.
  • Please contact a member of staff for use of the portable ramp.
  • There are 2 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 124cm.
  • There is a second set of manual doors (with one door locked) which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 81cm.
  • There is a steep ramp between 75cm and 150cm wide beyond the entrance, with no handrails.
  • The ramp overcomes the steps.
  • Please contact a member of staff for use of the portable ramp.
  • There are 3 steps beyond the entrance, which are unmarked, with no handrails.

Tour

  • The tour is self-guided but volunteers/staff are available to provide additional information.
  • The tour takes approximately 60 minutes.
  • There is step-free access via lift throughout the tour.
  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise along the tour route.
  • Tour information includes the following formats: information booklets and information board.
  • Floor plans/maps are available for the tour route.
  • The tour does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • There are bench seats and chairs with armrests at regular intervals along the tour.
  • Some flooring along the tour route is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • Lighting levels are varied throughout the tour route.
  • Lift View
    • This lift is a stair lift (staff assistance required).

Lift

  • A member of staff needs to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are the cellar (lower G), G and 1.
  • Externally the lift has: a door with a low colour contrast to the surroundings, buttons with a low colour contrast to the surroundings and controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift does not have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
  • The lift door opening width is 76cm.
  • The dimensions of the lift are 112cm x 132cm.
  • Internally the lift has: controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • Lighting levels are low.

Stairs (Main House Stairs)

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are Ground floor, 1 and 2.
  • There are more than 20 steps between floors.
  • The steps are not clearly marked with no handrails.
  • The highest step is 17cm high.
  • This is a spiral staircase and will be narrower in some areas.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

Stairs (Wine Cellar - Basement)

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are Ground Floor and Wine Cellar.
  • There are 16 steps between floors.
  • The steps are not clearly marked with a handrail on the right going down.
  • The highest step is 14cm high.
  • Lighting levels are low.

Parent and Baby Room / Baby Feeding Room

  • There is step-free level access into the room.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 83cm.

    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
    • The door has a horizontal grab rail.
    • The dimensions of the facility are 290cm x 277cm.
    • The ceiling height is at a minimum height of 2.4m and there is a clear 200cm x 180cm manoeuvring space in the facility.
    • The facility has not got a non-slip floor.
  • Toilet Details View
    • There are lateral transfer spaces on both sides of the seat.

    • The towel dispenser is 100cm from the floor.
    • The facility has: a full length mirror, a waste bin with lid, a waste bin without lid, a nappy/incontinence items bin, a pedal bin and a privacy screen.

Toilet with Adaptations (Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located at the rear left of Waddesdon Manor.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 192m from the Manor entrance.
  • There is pictorial, written text and ‘Not All Disabilities Are Visible’ signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 92cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 269cm x 144cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat.
  • The lateral transfer space is 142cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the non transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side and a vertical grab rail on the non transfer side.
