  • The vehicle route from the main road to the car park includes: uneven surfaces.
  • This is an open air car park with a tarmac and compacted gravel surface.
  • Parking is free for all users.
  • Maps and information boards are not available.
  • There are 4 Blue Badge parking bays.
  • The dimensions of the designated Blue Badge parking bay(s) surveyed are 340cm x 600cm.
  • There is no hatched zone.
  • The nearest Blue Badge bay is 37m from the visitor reception.
  • Obstacles from the car park include: uneven surfaces, slopes/ramps and a road crossing.
  • There are not parent and child parking bays available.
  • There is additional Blue Badge bay parking approximately 300m away which is located to the front courtyard of Upton House. Access is given via the access road to vehicle drivers via a gate which is automatically operated by a National Trust team member at the visitor reception.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders.
  • You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • Additional manual wheelchairs can be borrowed from a white hut which is located in the Gift and Plant courtyard. Occasionally there is a buggy that is operated by a member of the team. When it is available it can take visitors up to Upton House, the café and shop area.

Visitor Reception

  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 112cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of more than 1.5cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
  • There is room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) within the majority of the area.
  • The flooring is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 81cm.
  • The counter has windows, TVs, glazed screens or mirrors which could adversely affect the ability of someone to lip read.
