Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from the visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
- There are umbrellas available to borrow from the visitor reception.
Route to (Gardens)
- Turn right after you exit the visitor reception.
Then turn right through an open gateway and arch, of width 93cm, with a ramp after you exit.
The Gardens will be ahead of you via 3 steps, or a ramp that bypasses the steps. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are cobbles and paving stones.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located after you have exited the archway from the courtyard.
- Access into the area is via steps and a slight ramp/slope.
- The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are 3 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
- This is an open gap at the surveyed access point.
- The width of the gap is 93cm.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, block paving and gravel.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are less than 3 steps without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
- There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
Picnic Area
- The following information describes the picnic area located in the Arboretum area.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are picnic tables.
- Adapted picnic tables are available.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 67cm.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 67cm.
- The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 74cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.
- There is a gate to the Arboretum which opens away from you.
Toilet with Adaptations
- This toilet is located to the right after you enter the garden area.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- This toilet is approximately 15m from the Garden entrance.
- There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 91cm.
- The door has a locking handle.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of more than 1.5cm.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 215cm x 143cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
- There are lateral transfer spaces on both sides of the seat but the right side is obstructed.
- The transfer space on the left as you face the toilet is 79cm.
- The transfer space on the right as you face the toilet is 109cm.
- There is a lever flush on the right transfer side.
