Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • There are umbrellas available to borrow from the visitor reception.

Route to (Gardens)

  • Turn right after you exit the visitor reception.
    Then turn right through an open gateway and arch, of width 93cm, with a ramp after you exit.
    The Gardens will be ahead of you via 3 steps, or a ramp that bypasses the steps.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are cobbles and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located after you have exited the archway from the courtyard.
  • Access into the area is via steps and a slight ramp/slope.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are 3 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • This is an open gap at the surveyed access point.
  • The width of the gap is 93cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, block paving and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are less than 3 steps without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Picnic Area

  • The following information describes the picnic area located in the Arboretum area.
