Public Transport

  • There is not a bus stop within approximately 150m of the property.
  • The nearest bus stops are on the A258 at the end of Upper Road, approximately 1 mile from the Tea Room/Shop and car park.
    Buses stop on both sides of the road, and provide a direct service to Dover Town Centre, Walmer, Deal and Sandwich.
  • The nearest train station is Dover Priory.
  • Dover Priory Station is approximately 1.8 miles from the Tea Room/Shop and car park, with direct rail links to London, Ashford, Canterbury, Deal and Ramsgate.

Parking

  • This site does not have a car park.
  • There is no vehicle access to the Deep Shelter.
    Parking is available at The White Cliffs Visitor Centre car park.

Route to (Fan Bay Deep Shelter - From White Cliffs of Dover Car Park)

  • Exit the White Cliffs of Dover Car Park via the main access point to the cliffs.
    Follow the main path straight ahead along the coastline for approximately 1.2 miles, until it brings you to Fan Bay Deep Shelter.
  • The route to the area includes more than 3 steps with a handrail.
  • Path surfaces along the route are bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Visitor Reception

  • Access into the area is via steps.
  • There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with handrails on both sides.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • The majority of aisle widths are under 150cm.
  • There is no room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) within the majority of the area.
  • Some of the flooring is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
  • The counter has a hearing assistance system which is not signed.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There are bench seats available in the visitor reception.

Entrance

Stairs

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are G, B.
  • There are more than 20 steps between floors.
  • The steps are not clearly marked with a handrail on the right going down.
  • The highest step is 17cm high.
  • Lighting levels are low.
  • There are 125 steps down into the Deep Shelter from ground level.

Tour

  • The tour is guided.
  • The tour takes approximately 45 minutes.
  • There is stepped access along the tour route.
  • There are doorways or openings used on the tour which are under 75cm wide.
  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • The tour can not be adapted to avoid inaccessible areas.
  • There may be background noise along the tour route.
  • The tour has a hearing assistance system which is not signed.
