Access Guide
Summary
- View information about opening hours.
- The most accessible entrance has step-free level access, an open entrance with no doors and gates.
- This entrance is on the east side of the garden, off the pathway from visitor reception to the house.
- There is step-free access once inside.
- There is a member of staff available for help and assistance.
- Staff/volunteers can describe the layout and access around the site.
- The following are also available: seating and an accessible route map.
- This site is part of the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from Vyne House. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
- There is a Bus shuttle available to for visitors. This can be found at the visitor's reception.
Route to (the Summerhouse Garden and Tea Garden)
- Follow the pathway from visitor reception at the car park. The path goes through the summerhouse garden and the tea garden.
- The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, gravel and muddy.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.
Entrance (Summerhouse)
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the summerhouse.
- There is stepped access at the entrance.
- There is 1 step, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
- The step is not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 85cm.
Attraction / Exhibit (Summerhouse)
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- Exhibit information includes the following formats: information board.
- The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- There are bench seats available in the area.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs.
- Flooring in the area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
Outdoor Spaces
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- The access points to the area are located at the east and west ends of the gardens. Both entrances are off the main path from visitor reception to the house.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
- The outdoor facilities also include: a historic summerhouse building.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and gravel.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
- There are slight slopes off the main pathway through the gardens.
- There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
