Parking (Main Car Park - Speke Hall)

  • This site has a car park.
  • This is an open air car park with a tarmac, grass, loose chippings and gravel surface.
  • Parking is free for all users.
  • Maps and information boards are not available.
  • There are more than 10 Blue Badge parking bays.
  • The dimensions of the designated Blue Badge parking bay(s) surveyed are 340cm x 450cm.
  • There is no hatched zone.
  • The nearest Blue Badge bay is 36m from the Visitor Reception entrance.
  • Obstacles from the car park include: loose chippings, bollards with high colour contrast but no visual identification band and bollards with low colour contrast and no visual identification band.
  • There are not parent and child parking bays available.
  • There is not a designated drop-off point.

Route to (The Beatles' Childhood Homes - Mendips from Speke Hall Car Park)

  • Visitors to The Beatles' Childhood Homes use the Visitor Reception at Speke Hall to check-in prior to departing for the tours.
    Visitors will then take the shuttle minibus to 20 Forthlin Road or Mendips.
    The shuttle minibus is not adapted for wheelchair users.
    If your pre-booked tour departs from Liverpool South Parkway, please wait at bus stand 2 around 10 minutes before your scheduled tour start time.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Parking (for Mendips)

  • This building does not have a car park.
  • Visitors to The Beatles' Childhood Homes Tour are requested to park at Speke Hall or Liverpool South Parkway.
    Speke Hall has standard and Blue Badge parking spaces available.
    Visitors can park in The Vineries or Menlove Avenue, opposite Mendips.

Entrance (Tour Start - Rear)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the rear of the building.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The steep portable ramp is under 75cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The ramp overcomes the step.
  • Please contact a member of staff for use of the portable ramp.
  • There is 1 step, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • There is a single manual door which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 73cm.

Tour

  • The tour is guided.
  • The tour takes approximately 1 hour.
  • There is stepped access along the tour route.
  • The majority of walkway widths are under 120cm.
  • The tour can not be adapted to avoid inaccessible areas.
  • Areas with stepped access only can be experienced by visitors via a video on tablet or mobile phone.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise along the tour route.
  • The tour has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There are chairs with armrests at regular intervals along the tour.
  • Some flooring along the tour route is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • Some of the flooring includes large repeating patterns in bold colours, which may look like steps or holes to some people.
