Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, soft toy and accessible maps.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: off-road/all-terrain mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • Hire charges do not apply, however, there is a donation box.
    There is a pop up quiet/sensory tent available for visitors to borrow.
    There is no Braille map available, but there is a Braille guide for borrowing, plus a large print guide.
    A stair climber is available to book in advance.

Route to (the Stableyard Courtyard)

  • From visitor reception, take the pathway from the exit down to the footbridge over the road.
    Then walk through the walled garden which leads to a roadway leading slightly uphill to the courtyard.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located off the main path.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The outdoor facilities also include: a picnic area, activity space educational room and standard toilets.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, gravel and bonded gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.

  • The room surveyed was Granary and is located at the rear of the courtyard.
  • Getting Into The Room View
    • Access into the room is via steps.
    • There are 8 steps, which are unmarked, with a handrail on the right going up.
    • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
    • The width of the opening is 90cm.
    • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
  • Inside The Room View
    • The area does not have a hearing assistance system.
    • There is not a visual fire alarm beacon in the room(s).
    • The room has: chairs without armrests and tables.
    • The room does not have: room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is step-free level access around the room.
    • Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
    • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet and carpet (deep pile).
    • The colour contrast between the walls and floor is high.
    • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
