Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and mountain trikes. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, soft toy and accessible maps.
- You can borrow these from the Access Hub. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: off-road/all-terrain mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

- Hire charges do not apply, however, there is a donation box.
There is a pop up quiet/sensory tent available for visitors to borrow.
There is no Braille map available, but there is a Braille guide for borrowing, plus a large print guide.
A stair climber is available to book in advance.

Route to (Spread Eagle Courtyard)
- From the visitor reception take the pathway from the exit down to the Spread Eagle Courtyard.
The shuttle bus takes visitors from visitor reception to the Spread Eagle Courtyard, next to the bookshop.
There are also Blue Badge parking bays located in the car park next to the Spread Eagle Courtyard. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope and is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.
- Along the top route into the garden from Gate A (House Entrance) there are concrete gullies in the pathway.
Eating and Drinking
- This is a kiosk which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
- Staff cannot provide assistance or offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: written wall menus and menu boards.
- Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
- The following are available here: drinking straws and takeaway cups.
- There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
- There is not a hearing assistance system.
- There is a counter over 85cm high without a tray rail.
- The counter is 100cm high.
- There is not a section of the counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- There is step-free level access around the seating area.
- There are bench seats and picnic tables available in the seating area.
- The seating area does not have: a priority table and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests.
- There are no tables which are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The surface height of the tables is 72cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
- Flooring in the area is not smooth and even.

Toilet with Adaptations (Spread Eagle Courtyard - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located within the Spread Eagle Courtyard, next to the food and drink kiosk.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- This toilet is approximately 20m from the entrance to the courtyard.
- There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 79cm.
- The door has a locking handle.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 136cm x 240cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
- The lateral transfer space is 83cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
- There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
- The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder.
- The following fixtures cannot be reached from the toilet seat: wash basin, soap dispenser and hand dryer.
- The height of the toilet seat above floor level is 47cm.

Standard Toilet (Spread Eagle Courtyard)

- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- The male standard toilet was surveyed.
- There is also a female toilet in the same location.
- The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 70cm.
- The wash basin tap type is twist/turn.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There are hand dryers.
- There is a baby change facility which is not at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
