Public Transport

Parking

  • This site has a car park.
  • This is an open air car park with a tarmac and compacted gravel surface.
  • Parking is free for National Trust members and Blue Badge holders, but charges apply for all other visitors.
  • There are not clearly presented payment signs.
  • Maps and information boards are not available.
  • There are more than 10 Blue Badge parking bays.
  • The dimensions of the designated Blue Badge parking bay(s) surveyed are 240cm x 480cm.
  • There is a hatched zone on both sides and to the rear.
  • The nearest Blue Badge bay is 50m from the visitor reception entrance.
  • Obstacles from the car park include: slopes/ramps, a road crossing and a lack of pedestrian walkways to cross the car park.
  • There are not parent and child parking bays available.
  • There is not a designated drop-off point.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and mountain trikes. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, soft toy and accessible maps.
  • You can borrow these from the Access Hub. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: off-road/all-terrain mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Hire charges do not apply, however, there is a donation box.
    There is a pop up quiet/sensory tent available for visitors to borrow.
    There is no Braille map available, but there is a Braille guide for borrowing, plus a large print guide.
    A stair climber is available to book in advance.

Toilet with Adaptations (Near Visitor Reception - Accessible - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located in the courtyard to the left of the visitor reception.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 30m from the visitor reception.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 83cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 156cm x 207cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 81cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a lever flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and a vertical rail on the right side of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.

Visitor Reception (Main)

  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
  • Some of the flooring has a very shiny finish, which could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.

  • The counter has windows, TVs, glazed screens or mirrors which could adversely affect the ability of someone to lip read.

Visitor Reception (Access Hub)

  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with a handrail on the left going up.

  • The width of the door opening is 98cm.
  • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There is room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) throughout the area.
  • All flooring is smooth and even.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 73cm.
  • The counter does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • There are coffee tables, armchairs and chairs with armrests available in the visitor reception.
