Route to (the Shop via the House)

  • From the Blue Badge bays, head back up the entrance road.
    Turn to the left, then right through the archway into the main courtyard.
    The entrance to the house is to the left.
    Enter the house and follow the tour route through the ground floor, which includes some steep ramps as you pass through the conservatory.
    The step-free entrance to the shop is at the end of the ground floor tour.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Shop

  • There is step-free level access into the shop.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 99cm.
  • Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
  • The majority of aisle widths are under 150cm.
  • All flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
  • There is step-free level access around the shop.
  • There is background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 99cm.
  • There is not a low level counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The counter has windows, TVs, glazed screens or mirrors which could adversely affect the ability of someone to lip read.
  • The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested, however it was not working at the time of the survey.

  • There are 7 steps, which are unmarked, with a handrail on the right going up.
  • Steps are split with a resting area.
  • The handrail covers all steps.
  • Some of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There is a single manual door which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 81cm.

Route to (the Shop and Plant Centre)

  • From the Blue Badge bays, cross the entrance road and follow the path ahead then right to the Kitchen Courtyard.
    The entrance to the Shop is on the left, and the Plant Centre is ahead.
    A step-free route into the Shop is available through the main house.

Shop (Plant Centre)

  • The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
  • Some flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the shop.
  • Access around the shop is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • Services/facilities available in the shop include: a member of staff to provide assistance.
  • Plants are paid for in the main shop, or by pressing the assistance bell.

Parent and Baby Room / Baby Feeding Room

  • Access into the room is via steps.

Toilet with Adaptations (Shop - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located to the right of the Kitchen Courtyard (the section of the main building closest to the parking), opposite the main shop.
  • Access into the toilet is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • This toilet is approximately 20m from the Blue Badge parking bays.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 82cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 136cm x 230cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 67cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a lever flush on the transfer side.

  • There are hand dryers.

Standard Toilet (Male)

  • Access into the toilet is via a step.
  • There is 1 step, which are clearly marked, with a handrail on the right going up.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 80cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • The male standard toilet was surveyed.
  • The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 59cm.
