Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from visitor reception at the Stackpole Centre. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • A beach wheelchair is also available to borrow.
    You must ring visitor reception and book in advance to use the equipment.

Visitor Reception (Welcome Hut)

  • Access into the area is via a step.
  • There is 1 step, which is unmarked.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 133cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There is no room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) within the majority of the area.
  • All flooring is smooth and even.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 73cm.
  • The counter does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • There are chairs with armrests available in the visitor reception.
  • Services/facilities available include: a portable card machine for payment and a member of staff to provide assistance.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • The Welcome Hut is open seasonally on an ad-hoc basis.

  • The lateral transfer space is 114cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door and a vertical rail on the right side of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder, wash basin and soap dispenser.

  • Access into the area is via a very steep ramp/slope.

  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are available.
  • The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 77cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located to the left of the toilet block.
  • Access into the area is via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland.
  • The outdoor facilities also include: fishing areas and a trail.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, block paving, compact earth, loose stones and wood.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are steps to access the bridge to go over the lily ponds.

Hikes and Trails

  • The trail is approximately 1.8 miles long.
  • Take the very steep slope to the left of the toilet block and follow the path down until you reach a T-junction.
    If you go left, you will eventually reach 5 steps to go over the bridge.
    If you go right, you will follow the path along the lily ponds all the way to Broad Haven South. Take the path on the left at the beach and you will then cross a bridge.
    Follow the edge of the lily ponds until you reach another bridge on the left. Cross this and follow the edge of the lily ponds until you return to the bridge near the car park which is followed by 5 steps.
    Turn right off the path and ascend the very steep slope back up to the car park.
  • The trail is open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: concrete, block paving, gravel, compacted gravel, wood and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients, steps and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: at the first bridge on the left after the T-junction (5 steps), and from the start of the trail and throughout (steep gradients and very uneven surfaces).
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are standard and accessible toilet facilities along the route.
