Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • Equipment cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • The tramper cannot be used at all locations.
    Please discuss with a member of staff upon borrowing.

Route to (Island Café)

  • From the visitor reception (Change House Mount Office) go straight ahead across the cobble path.
    After the Island shop, turn left.
    Follow this path past the toilets on your left, up a slight cobble slope and the Island café will be on your right.
  • The route to the area is step-free level and is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel and cobbles.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front right of the building.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The slight portable ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The ramp overcomes the steps.
  • Please contact staff within the Island cafe for use of the portable ramp.
  • There are 2 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • Some of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 92cm.
  • There is a second manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 99cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: menu boards and counter menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, easy grip cutlery, takeaway cutlery and a portable card machine for payment.

Toilet with Adaptations (Left Hand Transfer with Room Mate)

  • This toilet is located to your left after you exit the Island café.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 27m from the Island café exit.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 111cm.
  • The door has a lever twist lock.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 166cm x 288cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 100cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
