Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and soft toy.

Route to (The Well Read Bookshop)
- Leave visitor reception by the entrance and head left out of the car park.
Follow the road to the left, then turn left into the forecourt before the house.
Head to the left side of the forecourt and go through the arch.
The entrance to the bookshop is on the left. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and paving stones.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Shop
- Access into the shop is via a steep ramp/slope.
- The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- The door is manual, permanently held open and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 92cm.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
- Some flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet (deep pile).
- There is step-free level access around the shop.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- Purchases are paid for by cash via the donation tin, or by card at visitor reception.
