Route to (the Gardens)

  • Leave visitor reception by the entrance and head to the right.
    To the right of the car park map and information board, take the open gate into the gardens.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Gardens)

  • This information is for the access point located at the front of the car park, to the left of the visitor reception.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The width of the gap is 90cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, grass and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • The slight and steep slopes are throughout the gardens.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Outdoor Spaces (Dutch Garden)

  • This information is for the access point located along the path from visitor reception to the front of the house.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The width of the gap is 90cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac and grass.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • The paths going across the garden are steeply sloped.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Toilet with Adaptations (Along Juniper Walk - Accessible - Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located along the main path from visitor reception to the house, opposite the costume museum.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 87cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 194cm x 234cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 118cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a lever flush on the non transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and a vertical rail on the left side of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder and wash basin.
