Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, activity sheets and accessible maps.
  • You can borrow these from the Visitor Reception building. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • An accessible golf cart with a fold down ramp 86cm wide is available.
    The cart can be used to take visitors to the main hall and gardens.

Route to (The South Lawn, Moat Garden and Woodland Trail)

  • From the Visitor Reception exit proceed along the pathway passing the Home Farm Restaurant and bookshop on the right.
    Proceed along the pathway for approximately 150 metres, the Kitchen Garden and Orchard are on either side of the pathway.
    The Stable Tea Room is at the end of the pathway on the left.
    The entrance to The South Lawn is on the left, just past the Stable Tea Room.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, gravel, cobbles and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (The South Lawn)

  • This information is for the access point located to the side of the Stable Tea Room.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: loose chippings and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Outdoor Spaces (Moat Garden)

  • This information is for the access point located at the entrance point on the approach to Speke Hall.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The width of the gap is 150cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: compact earth and loose stones.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are more than 3 steps with handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas .
  • There are 5 steps located beyond the footpath and the front of the Speke Hall entrance to the Moat Garden.
    There are 7 steps leading from the approach from South Lawn to the Moat Garden at this access point.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Outdoor Spaces (Woodland Trail)

  • This information is for the access point located at the rear corner of The South Lawn.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: loose chippings, compact earth, uncompacted earth and loose stones.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • Some of the pathways on the woodland walk have a steep gradient.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
