Summary

- The standard toilets surveyed can be found to the right before taking the path to the Manor House on the left.
Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from Visitor Reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
- The accessible visitor shuttle bus operates from the front of the café.
An accessible drop-off point is also available, please ask a member of staff at the Visitor Reception upon arrival who can direct you to the drop-off point.
Route to (The Garden)
- Take the slope to the left after you exit the Visitor Reception and then left again the bottom of the slope.
There are several steep slopes, down and up to The Garden through wooded and open areas.
Some parts of the route may be dark during times of cloudy weather.
There are several wooden bench seats available along the route.
There is a very steep slope at the end of the route into The Garden. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope and is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.
- The route to The Garden is approximately 500 metres from the Visitor Reception.
Outdoor Spaces
- Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- The access points to the area are located at the top of the steep slope, just after the toilets to the left.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens and gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, block paving, gravel and loose stones.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no step-free level access around the area.
- There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
- There are various steep slopes and steps to each section.
There is stepped access into the Kitchen Garden, Elder Court, Santa Maria Byre and Jolly Roger, Armillary Court and the Orchard. - There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
Standard Toilet
- Access into the toilet is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 73cm.
- The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
- The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 57cm.
- Lighting levels are low.
- There are hand dryers.
- There is a baby change facility which is not at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The male facility has 1 sink with lever taps.
The female facility has 2 sinks, each with a push tap and a twist tap.
The baby change table is located in the female toilet only.
