Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • The accessible visitor shuttle bus operates from the front of the café.
    An accessible drop-off point is also available, please ask a member of staff at the Visitor Reception upon arrival who can direct you to the drop-off point.

Shop

  • There is step-free level access into the shop.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 170cm.
  • The majority of aisle widths are under 150cm.
  • All flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
  • There is step-free level access around the shop.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are bright.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 91cm.
  • There is not a low level counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The checkout area is placed in front of a patterned background .
  • The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.

Entrance (Toilet Block)

  • The slight slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 155cm.

Toilet with Adaptations (Accessible - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located to the left as you exit the Visitor Reception / Shop.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 12m from the exit.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 93cm.
  • The door has a twist lock.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 196cm x 192cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 145cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
