Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from the Visitor Reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (The Library)

  • Turn left after exiting the Visitor Reception, follow the path to the right of the oast.
    Turn right and the entrance to the formal gardens is on the left.
    The Library is located through the arch on the left.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
  • The approach path to the Library has narrow access width of 100cm.
    Paving stones may be slippery when wet.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building, at the far end.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 2 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • All of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 143cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.

Attraction / Exhibit

  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • There is background noise here.
  • Exhibit information includes the following formats: pictorial, information board and television/screen.
  • The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are three unmarked steps with no handrails to access the far end of the Library.
  • There are tables, long tables and chairs with armrests available in the area.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the tables.
