- The gardens are accessed via the Garden Gate.
Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from the Visitor Reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (The Formal Garden)
- Turn left on exiting the Visitor Reception, follow the path down to the right of the oast, turn right and the entrance to the gardens is on the left.
Although the route to the Gardens are wide, some of the walkways through the gardens are narrow and are therefore unsuitable for wheelchair users.
There is an accessible route to the right through the Rose Garden or to the left past the Library entrance. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and paving stones.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located at the entrance to the gardens by the garden gate.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: loose chippings, grass and block paving.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas .
- There are 4 steps without handrails beyond the Tower to access the gardens which can be overcome by turning right before the approach pathway to the Tower.
There are steps without handrails and slight ramps at various points throughout the gardens. - There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
