Route to (The Tower of the Winds)

  • With the visitor reception building to your right, head to the pathway crossroads. The walled garden is straight ahead. Turn left at this junction and continue until you get to the fork in the path. At the fork take the left hand path and continue until you get to Park Farm on your right. Go to the far end of the farmyard by the house and there is a small gap in the wall. Go through this gap and turn left through another gap. Go through this gap and there is a downwards slight sloped pathway which leads you to the entrance of the tower.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel, cobbles, paving stones and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the tower by the path.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 3 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • All of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 68cm.

Attraction / Exhibit

  • The majority of walkway widths are over 180cm.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are no seats available in the area.
  • All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Lighting levels are low.
  • This is a tower so when you enter it is just the one room. There are windows with coloured glass on all sides.
  • There is an upstairs but this is out of bounds to visitors.
  • The exit is the same door as the entrance.
