Route to (Old Castle)

  • From Visitor Reception, follow the path ahead.
    The path descends a steep hill to a level area with a lake and island.
    Cross the bridge onto the island, and follow the path to the Old Castle entrance.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Old Castle)

  • This information is for the access point located at the end of the path from Visitor Reception.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: castle ruins, access to the old castle interior.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and block paving.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are less than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • Most of the doorways in the ruins have a step at the threshold.
    The grass can be used to bypass these steps, except for the section of the old castle right next to the lake.

Entrance (Old Castle Interior)

  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven floorboards.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good throughout the tour route.
