Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (House)

  • Once through the welcome centre, follow the path up to the house. The visitor entrance is clearly signposted and is on the right.

  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located on the left hand side of the house.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The steep ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 69cm.
  • There is a second manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 115cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.

Tour

  • The tour is self-guided but volunteers/staff are available to provide additional information.
  • The tour takes approximately 20 minutes.
  • There is stepped access along the tour route.
  • There are doorways or openings used on the tour which are under 75cm wide.
  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • The tour route may vary depending on the season.
  • There is background noise along the tour route.
  • The following may be experienced on the tour: lighting effects.
  • The tour does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • There are chairs without armrests at regular intervals along the tour.
  • There are folding seats/stools available to take around the tour.

  • There are 5 steps, which are clearly marked, with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails cover all steps.
  • The steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm) .
  • There is a single manual door which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 72cm.
  • There is a set of stairs immediately after the exit and another set of stairs approximately 15m ahead.
    Visitors can exit via the entrance.
