Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (Tea Room)
- From the visitor centre, proceed straight ahead along the signed path towards the tea room entrance.
Continue to the right along the side of the tea room building .
The disabled access entrance is ahead at the rear of the building.
There are slight slopes on the pathways leading to the entrance. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, concrete and paving stones.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Entrance (Disabled Access)
- The entrance surveyed is located at the right hand side of the building.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 77cm.
Entrance (Car Park)
- The entrance surveyed is located to the left of the building from the car park.
- There is stepped access at the entrance.
- The slight ramp is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are 2 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
- All of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
- There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 80cm.
Entrance (Courtyard)
- The entrance surveyed is located in the courtyard at the rear of the visitor centre and café.
- There is stepped access at the entrance.
- There is 1 step, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
- The step is not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
- There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 80cm.
Eating and Drinking (Café)
- This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
- Access into the area is via a step.
- There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
- Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: written wall menus.
- Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
- The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, a portable card machine for payment, large-handled mugs and large-handled cutlery.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.

- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to cobbles.
Picnic Area (Tea Room/Garden)
- The following information describes the picnic area located opposite the disabled access entrance in the café area.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There are tables.
- No chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are not available.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 72cm.
- The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 74cm.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
Toilet with Adaptations (Courtyard - Left Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located in the courtyard picnic area.
- Access into the toilet is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- This toilet is approximately 9m from the visitor centre rear entrance.
- There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 84cm.
- The door has a sliding bolt lock.
- Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 158cm x 203cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat.
- The lateral transfer space is 84cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a lever flush on the transfer side.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side and a vertical rail on the left side of the wash basin.
