Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, soft toy and communication cards.
  • You can borrow these from visitor reception and the café. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (The Lower Garden)

  • Turn right after exiting visitor reception and go over the bridge.
    Turn right and follow the path passing the house on the right.
    The stable yard will be ahead of you, go through this area.
    Turn left approximately 25 metres after exiting the stable yard.
    On the right will be the first of the lower gardens; Spring Ground.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth and tarmac.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located off the accessible track to the left after the stable yard.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, block paving, gravel, compact earth and loose stones.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • Once you get off the main path all of the gardens have slight and steep slopes.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
