Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the Towpath)

  • Exit the car park and turn left.
    Follow the path and cross the footbridge.
  • The route to the area is step-free level and includes more than 3 steps with a handrail.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, tarmac, gravel and wood.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Stairs (Woodbridge Meadow Crossing Footbridge)

  • There are more than 20 steps between floors.
  • The steps are not clearly marked with handrails on both sides.
  • The highest step is 18cm high.
  • The stairs are open.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located on the far side of the wharf, accessed by the footbridge.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: parkland.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, cobbled, grass and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails, steep ramps/slopes without handrails and less than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • There is a steep slope with a step as you approach Ladymead and the bridge to the north.
    There is a pedestrian crossing at this point with dropped kerbs and tactile paving.
    There is a steep path with no handrails on the central island leading to a further pedestrian crossing with tactile paving and dropped kerbs.
    The towpath continues on the other side of the bridge by turning right at the crossing and turning left down a steep pathway.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
