Route to (The Mill)

  • From the visitor centre, follow the signs for the mill area and shops.
    Proceed along the steep footpath for approximately 600m.
    The mill entrance is located on the right, at the bottom of the hill.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Entrance (Mill Entrance Level 2)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the side of the Mill.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 90cm.
  • The entrance provides access to Level 2 of the mill tour.

Tour

  • The tour is self-guided but volunteers/staff are available to provide additional information.
  • The tour takes approximately 1 hour.
  • There is step-free access via ramp along the tour route.
  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • There is background noise along the tour route.
  • The following may be experienced on the tour: strong smells and sudden loud noises.
  • Tour information includes the following formats: information booklets and information board.
  • Floor plans/maps are available for the tour route.
  • The tour does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • There are bench seats at regular intervals along the tour.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs.
  • Some flooring along the tour route is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven floorboards.
  • Lighting levels are varied throughout the tour route.

Lift

  • A member of staff does not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are G-1-2-3-4.
  • Externally the lift has: a door with a low colour contrast to the surroundings, buttons with a low colour contrast to the surroundings, tactile markings and Braille markings.
  • The lift does have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
  • The lift door opening width is 110cm.
  • The dimensions of the lift are 140cm x 120cm.
  • Internally the lift has: controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user, Braille markings, tactile markings and buttons with a low colour contrast to the surroundings.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

Stairs

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are -1 to 4.
  • There are 15 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked with a handrail on the left going up.
  • The highest step is 17cm high.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

Route to (Tour Entrance / Exit - Level -1)

  • For disabled access to level -1, exit the lift on level G.
    Exit into the courtyard area.
    Proceed to the right, to the rear of the mill.
    The tour exit / entrance for level -1 is on the right. The slopes are located on the pathways leading to the tour entrance / exit level 1 door.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Exit (Exit / Entrance Level -1)

  • The exit is located at the rear of the Mill on Level -1.
  • There is step-free level access at the exit.
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 90cm.
  • This exit / entrance is used by wheelchair users to access the tour on floor level -1.
