Route to (Mill Shop)

  • From the visitor centre, follow the signs for the mill area and shop.
    Proceed along the steep footpath for approximately 700m.
    The shop is located at the bottom of the hill on the left.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Stairs

  • There are 7 steps between floors.
  • The steps are not clearly marked with handrails on both sides.
  • The highest step is 17cm high.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

Lift

  • This lift is a platform lift.
  • A member of staff does not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The lift overcomes a small level change.
  • Externally the lift has: a door with a medium colour contrast to the surroundings, tactile markings and Braille markings.
  • The lift does have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
  • The lift door opening width is 84cm.
  • The dimensions of the lift are 140cm x 80cm.
  • Internally the lift has: a separate door to exit, controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user, Braille markings, tactile markings and an audible announcer.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

Shop

  • Access into the shop is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 88cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • The majority of aisle widths are under 150cm.
  • Some flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • There is no step-free level access around the shop.
  • Access around the shop is via a platform lift.
  • There is background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
