Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and soft toy.

  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a Hippocampe Beach Chair, a De Bug Beach Walker, and a Self-propelled Explore Chair.
    A mobile hoist is available to access the beach chairs.

Outdoor Spaces (Dunes)

  • This information is for the access point located at the rear of the beach.
  • Access into the area is via steps and a very steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is under 75cm wide.
  • There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: open countryside.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and sand.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • The slight and steep are located throughout.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails (Hopley Trail)

  • The trail is approximately 0.25 miles long.
  • Enter the beach from the car park and head westwards along the coast.
    Look for the access point at the rear of the beach, at post number 5. Take this route into the dunes.
    Follow this route inland.
    After reaching Hopley Dune, return by the same route.
  • The hike is open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: grass and sand.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients, steps and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: among the dunes.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is not clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps.
  • Seating is not available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
