Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (the Formal Gardens)

  • On exiting visitor reception, follow the path ahead and take the first path on the right.
    Follow this to the rear of the house and turn right.
    The entrance to the Rose Garden is ahead.
    The other formal gardens are accessed further along the same path.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, paving stones and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Rose Garden)

  • This information is for the access point located along the path at the rear of the house.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which opens away from you (push).
  • The gate is self-closing.
  • The gate has a latch lock.
  • The width of the gap is 147cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, block paving and bonded gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • The paths that branch off the central route through this garden are stepped.

  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails and less than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • The paths that branch off the central route through these gardens are either sloped or have steps.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Outdoor Spaces (Kitchen Garden)

  • This information is for the access point located off the Iris and Lavender Garden.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: block paving and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • Paths heading further uphill into the garden are steeply sloped.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Picnic Area (Home Farm Orchard)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located above the Kitchen Garden.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There are picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 65cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.
