Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the Servants' Quarters)

  • From the main car park visitor reception, head up the hill through the pleasure garden to the house.
    Enter the courtyard to the left of the house, and the entrance to the Servants' Quarters is on the left.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Picnic Area (Courtyard)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located in the courtyard between the servants' quarters and the house.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There are tables.
  • Some chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 76cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • Some of the surface in the picnic area in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the courtyard side of the building.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
  • The slight slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 117cm.
  • There is a steep slope over 150cm wide beyond the entrance, with a handrail on the left going down.

Tour

  • The tour is self-guided but volunteers/staff are available to provide additional information.
  • The tour takes approximately 20 minutes.
  • There is stepped access along the tour route.
  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • The tour can be adapted to avoid inaccessible areas.

Attraction / Exhibit (Exhibition Space)

  • The majority of walkway widths are over 180cm.

Toilet with Adaptations (Servants' Quarters - Ambulant - Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located to the left from the entrance, then on the left.

  • This toilet is approximately 5m from the entrance.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is automatic, opens inwards and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 93cm.
  • The door has a push pad lock.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 195cm x 198cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat.
  • The lateral transfer space is 127cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a wall sensor flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
