Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from the Main Car Park Visitor Reception or Church Lodge Visitor Reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the Pleasure Garden)

  • From the main car park visitor reception, follow the path up the hill towards the house. The path splits, but either way takes you through the pleasure garden.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located ahead from the main car park visitor reception.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, wood bark, grass, bonded gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails, steep ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • The paths through the area head uphill towards the house, and vary between level, slight, and steeply sloped in places.
    There are three steps into the Ionic Rotunda and Doric Temple.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails (Woodland Walk)

  • The walk is approximately 0.5 miles long.
  • Head to the top of the pleasure garden and take the signed path on the right to the woodland walk.
    The walk is a circular path, leading back to the pleasure garden.
    At one point there is an optional side path leading to an area with views of the deer park.
  • The hike is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: grass, compacted gravel and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: along the optional side path.
  • There are alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is not clearly signposted.
  • The route has handheld maps and online maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
