Route to (The Stables Café)

  • Take the exit at the bottom of the Penrose Hill car park.
    Follow the road to the right, then take the first left down a very steep slope.
    Continue along the road, following it to the right.
    Then turn left down to a bridge.
    Take the first right after the bridge up a long steep slope to the café.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Picnic Area

  • The following information describes the picnic area located at the front of the café.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There are picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are available.
  • The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 69cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to gravel.

Entrance (Counter)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 200cm.

Entrance (Seating)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The steep ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 98cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: menu boards.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).

Toilet with Adaptations (Toilet Block - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located to the left of the Stables Café counter entrance.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 4m from the Stables Café counter entrance.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 79cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 220cm x 197cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
