Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (the Garden)

  • From the car park, join the path to the house.
    Go around the right side of the house.
    The entrance to the gardens is ahead, to the left of the visitor reception kiosk.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located around the right side of the house.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The width of the gap is 155cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, bonded gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are slight slopes throughout the area.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Entrance (Temple of Pan)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the Temple.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 2 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • All of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 90cm.

Attraction / Exhibit (Temple of Pan)

  • The majority of walkway widths are over 180cm.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • All flooring in the area is smooth and even.

Hikes and Trails (Forest Walk)

  • The trail is approximately 0.8 miles long.
  • Take the path to the right of the Temple of Pan into the woodland.
    Follow the path around the edge of the woodland, which circles round and returns to the house.
  • The trail is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac, grass and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: as the path passes alongside the garden lake.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is not clearly signposted.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
