Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and mountain trikes. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, binoculars, magnifying glass and torch.
- You can borrow these from Visitor Reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (Sunken Garden, South Garden, South African Bed)
- Exit Visitor Reception and head right.
Turn left into the Top Garden.
Follow the path to the left, then to the right when it turns towards the house.
After the Second Hand Bookshop, turn to the left and continue past the Rose Garden.
After the Rose Garden, turn to the left, then to the right and follow the path ahead, which leads to the Sunken Garden, South Garden, and South African Bed. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.
- The shuttle provides a tour through the gardens and back to Visitor Reception.
Outdoor Spaces (Sunken Garden, South Garden, South African Bed)
- This information is for the access point located along the path behind the House.
- Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens and gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, grass and bonded gravel.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
- There are slight slopes throughout, with some steep slopes.
- There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
