Route to (the Walled Garden)

  • Head to the far end of the Lion's Gate Car Park and take the sloped path to the right.
    The most accessible entrance to the garden is at the top of the path on the left.

  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Walled Garden)

  • This information is for the access point located on the left at the top of the path leading up from the far end of the Lion's Gate Car Park.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, block paving and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • Paths running crosswise in the garden have steep slopes.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Picnic Area (Walled Garden)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located to the right and left of the path ahead from the entrance to the garden.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There are picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are available.
  • The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 75cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.

Ramp or Slope (to Toilets)

Toilet with Adaptations (Walled Garden - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located ahead through the garden entrance, to the left down the path by the central dividing wall, then right through the opening in the dividing wall, up the slope to the right, with the toilet door on the right.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 84cm.
  • The door has a lever twist lock.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 147cm x 230cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
