Route to (Mussenden Temple)

  • Head to the far end of the Lion's Gate Car Park and go up the sloping path to the right.
    Continue in the same direction through the gate and up the grassed hill.
    Turn to the left and go round to the rear of Downhill Demesne.
    Take the turning to the left, away from Downhill Demesne, and Mussenden Temple is ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and grass.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance (Mussenden Temple)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the temple.
  • There is step-free access via lift at the entrance.
  • There are 10+ steps, which are unmarkedhandrails on both sides.
  • The handrails do not cover all steps.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 100cm.
  • There is a stair climber to overcome the steps.
  • The use of the wheelchair accessible stair climber must be requested in advance.
    The temple is only opened for special events and tours.

Event Space (Mussenden Temple)

  • There is step-free level access around the space.
  • All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Lighting levels are varied.
  • The space does not have a hearing assistance system.

Entrance (Crypt)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the side of the building.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
  • The slight slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 100cm.
  • This entrance is only unlocked for guided tours.

Attraction / Exhibit (Crypt)

  • The majority of walkway widths are over 180cm.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are no seats available in the area.
  • Flooring in the area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to gravel.
