Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (the Stables Coffee Shop)
- From visitor reception, take the pathway over the River Test and then turn right onto a gravel pathway.
Follow this pathway until there is a turning to the right which leads to the stables courtyard.
The coffee shop is on the left hand side of courtyard.. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are concrete, gravel, muddy and wood.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the coffee shop.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 108cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.
- There is a mat in front of the entrance which might be a trip hazard.
Eating and Drinking
- This is a café which serves hot and cold snacks.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
- Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: written wall menus.
- Menus are not easy to read (unclear font with poorly contrasting colours).
- The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, easy grip cutlery, a portable card machine for payment and large-handled cutlery.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- There is a counter over 85cm high without a tray rail.
- The counter is 96cm high.
- There is not a section of the counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- There is step-free level access around the seating area.
- There are tables, bench seats and chairs without armrests available in the seating area.
- The seating area does not have: room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm), a priority table and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests.

Picnic Area
- The following information describes the picnic area located in the courtyard outside of the coffee shop.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There are tables.
- No chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are not available.
- The surface height of the lowest table is 73cm.
- The surface height of the highest table is 73cm.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- Some of the surface in the picnic area in the area is smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles and gravel.
Entrance (Stables Courtyard Toilets)
- The entrance surveyed is located in the courtyard, near to the coffee shop entrance.
- There is stepped access at the entrance.
- The slight slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 123cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- There is 1 step beyond the entrance, which is unmarked, with handrails on both sides.
- There are vertical handrails at the step beyond the entrance.
There is a mat at the entrance which could be a trip hazard.
Toilet with Adaptations (Stables Courtyard - Accessible - Right Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located near to the entrance to coffee shop.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- This toilet is approximately 10m from the coffee shop entrance.
- There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 85cm.
- The door has a locking handle.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 234cm x 254cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
- The lateral transfer space is 176cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a push button flush on top of the cistern.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.

- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
- The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 59cm.
- The wash basin tap type is push.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There are hand dryers.
