Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (the Bookshop)
- From visitor reception, take the pathway over the River Test and then turn right onto a gravel pathway.
Follow this pathway until there is a turning to the right which leads to the stables courtyard.
The bookshop is at the far end of the courtyard on the right. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are concrete, gravel, muddy, paving stones and wood.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.
Shop
- Access into the shop is via a step and a slight ramp/slope (which bypasses any steps).
- The portable ramp is under 75cm wide, with no handrails.
- Please contact bookshop staff for use of the portable ramp.
- There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
- The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 90cm.
- Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
- The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
- Some flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
- There is step-free level access around some of the shop.
- Access around the shop is via a steep ramp/slope.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- Lighting levels are bright.
- There is step-free level access to the counter.
- The height of the counter is 78cm.
- There is not a low level counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- Services/facilities available in the shop include: a portable card machine for payment and a member of staff to provide assistance.
