Route to (West Drive and Picnic Area)

  • From the visitor reception, go straight ahead towards the house.
    Go between the hedges and continue to the house.
    Turn left and the West Drive will be ahead of you.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (West Drive)

  • This information is for the access point located at the rear of the house.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground with play equipment and formal gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • Playground View
    • There is a route around the play equipment which is not firm and even, but is over 150cm wide.
    • The play equipment is in easy reach for seated and standing users, and users of different heights.
    • The following play experiences are available: sliding, climbing and balancing.
    • The play/activity equipment is located immediately to the left as you arrive in the West Drive Picnic Area.

Picnic Area

  • The following information describes the picnic area located on the left of West Drive with the house behind you.
  • Access into the area is via steps.
  • There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • There is an alternative access point located within the grass picnic area at the bookshop.
  • There are bench seats and picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 66cm.
  • The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 69cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: seating which is fixed to tables.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
