Summary

- The most accessible entrance has steps, a steep ramp/slope (which bypasses any steps) and a door permanently held open.

- The following are also available: seating, a clearly signed hearing assistance system and facilities for assistance dogs.
- At the time of our visit the hearing assistance system was working.
- This site is not part of the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme.
- Toilet and changing facilities available include: a toilet with some adaptations, an ambulant cubicle, step free standard toilets and a parent and baby room.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow (Main Visitor Reception)
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, activity sheets, soft toy and communication cards.
- You can borrow these from the main visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- The gatehouse visitor reception is approximately 472 metres away from the main visitor reception.
An accessible shuttle is available to take visitors from the main visitor reception to the gatehouse visitor reception.
Route to (The Park Café)
- Exit the car park area by the central exit near the Blue Badge parking area.
Follow the slightly sloped path down with the playground on the left.
The Park Café is the first building on the right. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Picnic Area
- The following information describes the picnic area located to the right as you face the café entrance.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide.
- There are picnic tables.
- No chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are not available.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 67cm.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 68cm.
- The surface height of the lowest table is 73cm.
- The surface height of the highest table is 73cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to gravel.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located opposite the picnic area.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground with play equipment.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, compact earth and sand.
- Footpaths are not available in all of the outdoor space.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
- There are slight slopes and steps located in various areas through the playground.

- There are no firm and even routes over 150cm wide round the play equipment.
- The play equipment is not in easy reach for a range of users.
- The following play experiences are available: swinging, rocking, rotating, climbing, balancing and viewing.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The steep ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with handrails on both sides.
- The ramp overcomes the steps.
- There are 4 steps, which are clearly markedhandrails on both sides.
- Steps are split with a resting area.
- The handrails cover all steps.
- There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which open towards you.
- The width of the opening is 92cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.
Eating and Drinking
- This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
- Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: written wall menus and menu boards.
- Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
- The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, takeaway cutlery, a portable card machine for payment, large-handled mugs and large-handled cutlery.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- There is a counter over 85cm high with a tray rail.

Toilet with Adaptations (The Park Café Area - Ambulant - Left Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located opposite the café entrance.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- There is pictorial, written text and ‘Not All Disabilities Are Visible’ signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 82cm.
- The door has a lever twist lock.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 142cm x 221cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
- The lateral transfer space is 80cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a push button flush on the left transfer side.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
- There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
- The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder and wash basin.

- The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
- The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 53cm.
- There is an ambulant cubicle available with horizontal grab rails on both sides and a vertical grab rail on the right.
- The wash basin tap type is lever.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There are hand dryers.
- The ambulant cubicle is only in the female toilets.
Parent and Baby Room / Baby Feeding Room (The Park Café Area)
- There is step-free level access into the room.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 82cm.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- The height of the baby change table is 89cm.
- The wash basin tap type is lever.
- There is no seating available in the room.
- There is a toilet in the parent and baby room.
- Waste bins include: a nappy bin, a general waste bin with lid and a sanitary bin.
